The hottest freelance skills in 2022
The freelance platform Upwork have been doing some data crunching and have uncovered the most in-demand freelance skills in 2022.
Before we dive into that, let's start with a caveat. After all, we like to look objectively at the data. In the report here, Upwork has covered freelancing globally, and there are of course (and hopefully) some differences when we zoom in on the 43,094km2 that covers our pond.
The common denominator for the global and local development, however, is increasing digitization – the fastest growing categories are, for example, Web Programming (43%) and Web Design (31%). But we also see a sharply increasing need to convey stories on social media, with Social Media Marketing as the third fastest growing year-on-year category with 25%.

In the US, the great freelance revolution is partly driven by what is being called The Great Resignation. However, it has not reached Europe to the same extent, here we "just" experience one record high demand for labour. (Hint: this means that it is you as a freelancer who has the really good cards.)
One of the strongest drivers is also the business community's approach to keeping output up. If the necessary competence cannot be found as a full-time workforce, freelancers are looked to to cover the gap.
