Your quick guide to how to send an EAN invoice – and what it even is
You have got a customer in the public sector, have done your work and now they ask you to send an EAN invoice.
Because invoicing to the public sector does not always take place in the same way as with the well-known CVR invoicing. EAN invoicing takes place via a so-called EAN number, which public bodies (and some large companies) make use of.
Her finder du en kort gennemgang af, hvad et EAN-nummer er, og hvordan du sender en EAN-faktura.
In addition, we have also made an extended one EAN Billing Guide, which you can find here.
What is EAN?
Where a CVR number is an identification number for Danish companies, EAN is a 13-digit identification number used by public bodies and larger companies.
When invoicing to, for example, public institutions, municipalities and regions, it must take place electronically via an EAN number.
You can find an overview of EAN-registered companies and organizations in Denmark at NemHandelsregisteret.
When you have to send invoices to a public customer, it therefore requires that you invoice via an EAN number. If you don't, your invoice will be rejected.
However, it is a good idea to be aware that there may be several different EAN numbers for different departments under the same agency.
When you invoice in this way, the creation and payment of the invoice takes place via a secure system that protects both you and your customer.
